A bit about me …
Since childhood, growing up in the countryside, I have always had a fascination with the natural world. I spent a lot of time outdoors and enjoyed watching the changing seasons, observing how these effected the countryside around me both visually and physically.
I think this upbringing, and the desire to immerse myself in the outdoors whenever possible, inspires what I choose as images to work with and create my paintings/prints.
I have always drawn and painted, but my degree was in Fine Art Printmaking, which I was introduced to various forms of print media.
I particularly enjoyed woodcuts and, since then, I have introduced more accessible linocuts as a medium for my work.
Taking nature as my source, I begin the process with my own sketches or photographs from local areas that I go to on regular dog walks including Sefton Park, Garston Coastal, Speke Hall Estate, Oglet Shore and Frodsham.
When painting I work in either acrylic or watercolour, but the linocuts take more planning.
They start as a sketch/design and then I use the reduction print method.
Each colour is carefully printed onto Japanese paper, the lino cut away, another colour printed (up to 5 or 6) until the final part of the design is printed last in the darkest colour to complete the design.
These are then made into cards or framed as original prints.
I have taught Art locally for 30 years both privately and for Sefton Community Learning Service. I have also done arts workshops in local schools producing murals and other visuals.
I enjoy teaching any level of ability and seeing the results of creativity on people’s mental health and well-being.
